I found out yesterday that we received $2000 from a grant I wrote to the Farm Credit Services of America for our garden.
With that being said, I have another call to arms for you. We would like to enter into a grant contest for money for general programming. Tom's Of Maine is currently running a 50 States for Good Program. Recipients will receive a $20,000 grant. We (the Sioux Ymca) need your help for entering the contest, as Tom's will select a cause from each state. Individuals rather than organizations must enter. An individual with a cause from each state will be randomly selected and asked to delegate the money to their chosen charity. Each day, you must either use twitter, instagram, or Tom's website to post a UNIQUE message (no retweets or regrams). Your message must include#onewaytohelp #entry #SD (in any order) and Sioux Ymca. If you use twitter or instagram, your account must be public. For example, my message today will be "Providing youth programming at the Sioux YMCA in the poorest county in America is my #onewaytohelp #entry #SD" The contest runs now until August 26th at 11:59 pm ET. Please nominate as many days as you can and spread the word! Pilamaya, THANK YOU! July started off with a bang. One of the ghosts shops on Main Street opened up for the last week of June and the first week of July to sell fireworks, which are legal in South Dakota. Open from 10-10, the old drive in diner served as a fireworks supplier for the kids of Dupree, which served up a real head ache for me. From 9 in the morning till 11 o'clock at night, the kids (with money from their parents/aunties/grandmas) shoot off fireworks in the streets, on the Y deck, under our tree, and in our tire obstacle course. I'm hoping things will settle down as today is the last legal day to sell fireworks in the South D, but I can hear them exploding as we speak. It's like living in a war zone.
I used Friday, my "day off" to spend 16 hours in Rapid doing shopping for the Y with Medina. At least I got to see "Magic Mike XXL" and some paneer korma out of it. On Saturday the 4th was the Iron Lightning Powwow but I only lasted for three hours of it, after getting to bed at 4 am the night before and it being in the 90s. |
